Join IVECA in celebrating the International Day of Plant Health on May 12th!

The United Nations has designated May 12th as the International Day of Plant Health! The UN international day provides an opportunity to raise awareness on how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment, and boost economic development.

As we face increasing environmental challenges such as climate change, it's more important than ever to promote global awareness and action to protect our natural resources. In fact, according to the United Nations, plants make up 80 percent of the food we eat, make 98 percent of the oxygen we breathe and the FAO estimates that annually up to 40 percent of global crop production is lost to pests. As such, it is essential that we take action to protect our environment.

At IVECA, we believe that education and awareness are key to building a more sustainable and equitable world. Global citizenship plays a vital role in promoting plant health and protecting our environment by encouraging individuals to understand the interconnectedness of our world and how actions in one part of the world can have far-reaching consequences. Through our sense of global responsibility, we can work towards preserving plant health and ensuring that our planet remains a safe and healthy place for future generations.

Spring Updates from IVECA

On March 23rd, IVECA’s 2023 UN Water Conference Side Event, Global Citizenship Education for Clean Water and Cleaner Energy was held to great success thanks to our esteemed panel of speakers and wonderful guests (both in person and online). IVECA and collaborators emphasized the role of global citizenship education in improving the lives of people around the world through their access to clean water and energy. Multi-stakeholder representatives who participated from around the world expressed their passion and support for IVECA’s Global Citizenship Education Partnership initiative.

Including the public (Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations, India Mission to the United Nations Academic Impact, UNESCO) and private sectors (EcoFlame and Dohwa Engineering), academia, and civil society (CoNGO, NGOCELL and The Ocean Cleanup), Multi-stakeholder representatives who participated from around the world expressed their passion and support for IVECA’s Global Citizenship Education Partnership initiative.

As the Spring semester has begun, IVECA and university partners in the United States (Lehigh University and Long Island University - Post), India (Shobhit University) and South Korea (Kyunghee University) are already taking action. Partner schools have started their intercultural virtual exchange, developing their sense of global identity through intercultural collaboration and communication and working on local environmental issues.

Joining IVECA from China, India, Tunisia. South Korea, and Costa Rica, K-12 students have also started their journey in global citizenship. This past week, they embarked on their first task of the semester- sharing their unique perspectives on their home countries and cultures while learning about those of their partners!

Spring Semester 2023 at IVECA!

The Spring semester has arrived! It is the IVECA Team’s pleasure to welcome teachers and students from around the globe back to school and to the virtual exchange classroom activities. We are excited for you to take part in our intercultural exchange program.

Through collaboration and exchange of ideas among partner schools, we hope to continue providing our returning teachers and students, as well as newcomers with a unique experience to develop 21st century skills, such as creativity, communication, and critical thinking. Our goal is to inspire the growth of interculturally competent global citizens who are willing to work together and make the world a better place for everyone.

This semester is special to us! We are excited to introduce our upgraded Virtual Classroom including engaging features to our teachers and students. We are also especially pleased to announce that IVECA is launching a new exchange program for Greening Education Partnership with universities from different countries. In collaboration with the public and private sectors, the university students will work to build eco-friendly sustainable cities by tackling waste management issues, and the solution will be presented at the United Nations later this year.
